Leaked footage of a lecture by Major General Jin Yianan described how Beijing has concealed high-profile spying cases over the past 10 years, the Financial Times reported. The general named eight senior officials who allegedly sold secrets to foreign countries, and said that some of them had instead been convicted of corruption charges to save face. Kang Rixin, former head of China’s nuclear program, and Li Bin, former ambassador to South Korea, both convicted of corruption, were included in the list. Jin also accused three military officers of spying, the first time these cases were mentioned by a Chinese official. Jin is a professor at China’s National Defense University, and was speaking to senior staff of China Life (LFC.NYSE, 601628.SH), a state-owned insurer, on March 17. The authenticity of the video posted on YouTube could not be confirmed, but several China analysts said the remarks are likely accurate.
