An explosion at a melamine production facility in Shandong province killed 14 workers and is the latest incident highlighting poor workplace safety standards in China, AFP reported, citing a report by state media. Five others were injured while attempting to repair a condenser at the plant in the city of Xintai, Xinhua said. The cause of the explosion is under investigation. The blast follows a similar incident in Jiangxi province chemical plant that killed three people in December. Other recent industrial deaths include 34 miners killed last week in an explosion at a coal mine in Yunnan province, and 12 construction workers killed in October when a ceiling collapsed in an underground parking lot they were erecting.
