US lawmakers call for action on Chinese hacking

Chinese hackers broke into the computer network of the US Chamber of Commerce and enjoyed access for at least six months, The Wall Street Journal reported. House Intelligence Committee Chairman Mike Rogers said on Wednesday that private sector companies need better information to defend against cyber attacks. “Incidents like this show that while the private sector already does much to secure its networks, it needs much clearer authority to detect threats and share information, and needs better access to what the US government knows about dangerous cyber threats,” he said. The Chinese embassy in Washington said the allegations lacked evidence. Rogers is sponsoring legislation to give private organizations access to classified data on cyber-security threats. An investigation concluded that intruders stole emails from four Chamber employees before being discovered in May 2010.
