A particularly high number of corruption cases were reported in China’s media during November and December as China’s “fourth generation” of leaders continued its emphasis on high-profile corruption investigations.
Some of the more notable cases included the sentencing of Wang Chun, former deputy secretary-general of Jilin Provincial Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC), who was sentenced to 18 years in prison for receiving bribes.
Shang Dianju, a county official who escaped and was recaptured during his trial was sentenced to life in prison in Liaoning province for accepting bribes and Wang Ju, former vice-mayor of Shenzhen in South China’s Guangdong province, was sentenced by Guangzhou Intermediate People’s Court to 20 years in jail for taking large bribes and neglecting his duties.
Finally, Liu Ketian, vice-mayor of Liaoning’s capital Shenyang in the early 1990s and former vice-governor since 1995, was also sacked for taking bribes and is expected to face judicial charges soon.
