Chinese Customs reported a net tax revenue of Yn26.4bn in September, 24 per cent higher than in the same month of 2001 and the highest ever total for a single month. The improvement followed successful measures taken to tighten supervision and stop smuggling, after tax revenues fell in the first half of the year. Customs sources forecast that this year's total tax revenue would exceed Yn240bn, close to last year's Yn249.8bn.
