Deal nears on China-ASEAN FTA

China agreed to a basic consensus with the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), which includes 10 countries, to establish a China-ASEAN Free Trade Area (FTA). The zone would include 1.7 billion consumers and nations with a total GDP of US$2 trillion. The FTA is planned to come into existence in 2010.
