Dell will buy US$18bn goods from China

[photopress:Kevin_Rollins_Dell.jpg,full,alignright]Although Dell is not having the best of times at the moment, it is still the world’s second-largest seller of personal computers. According to Kevin Rollins, chief executive officer, Dell plans to buy at least RMB140 billion (about US$18 billion) worth of goods from Chinese suppliers in the coming year.

The company bought US$17.9 billion of components from Chinese suppliers in 2006 which was a 14% increase from the US$15.7 billion purchased in 2005.

A company official later told Reuters the figure was a conservative estimate for 2007, and the actual level of purchases in China is ‘certain to be higher than that’. Dell beat analysts’ estimates for fiscal third quarter earnings as it sold more laptops and increased sales in China and Europe.

Kevin Rollins said, ‘We are the third-largest and fastest-growing computer systems company in China.’
