Documents published online by authorities in the Guangming New District of Shenzhen show a waste dump that spurred a deadly landslide in the city was ordered to close five months ago, South China Morning Post reported. 85 people in total are still unaccounted for, according to official figures released a day after the landslide hit on Sunday, covering more than 100,000 square meters and destroying or damaging more than 30 buildings. People living in the area said they had regularly complained about the dump to the government, but that authorities had failed to stop it from operating in October despite saying they were carrying out a crackdown.
