China Eastern Airlines is reported as instructing it sales units to stop selling air tickets of Air China, Shanghai Airlines and Sichuan Airlines.
A Shanghai-based air ticket sales firm representing Eastern Airlines, said, ‘Around January 5, we were informed that no tickets of these three airways should be sold.’ Other Eastern Airlines sales agents appear also to have received such information.
Previously, Air China, Shanghai Airlines, and Sichuan Airlines told all the ticket agents under their wing in Sichuan Province that Eastern Airlines ticket could not be sold.
Eastern Airlines, headquartered in Shanghai, has controlled less than 50% of the local market. Its three rivals have captured about 70% of the Sichuan market. To an outsider it all seems like a storm in a tea cup.
