EBay, Baidu.com sign ad deal

EBay, the world's biggest online auctioneer, has signed a deal with Baidu.com allowing China's biggest search engine to run advertising on eBay's site in the mainland, Bloomberg reported. The two companies will begin testing Baidu's search-based advertising on eBay's China site in the first quarter of next year and begin operations in the second quarter. Linda Liu, an eBay spokeswoman, declined to give financial details of the agreement. Advertising revenue from China's search market may rise more than sevenfold to US$1.4 billion in 2011 from US$194 million this year, according to a September 28 Credit Suisse report. Working with eBay may help Baidu win a bigger share of that market from rivals Google and Yahoo.
