Eight dead in east coast ship collision

Eight sailors are dead and nine more are still missing after two cargo ships collided off the east coast of China late on Saturday, state media reported. The maritime safety administration of Zhejiang province said that 12 of the 29 passengers had been rescued by emergency teams. The two craft involved in the collision were a cargo ship operated by Shenzhen Ocean Shipping and a Hong Kong-registered vessel. The Hong Kong ship sank immediately with all its crew on board. More than 40 seacraft and three helicopters from the East China Sea Fleet, East China Sea Rescue Bureau and local maritime safety authorities were dispatched to the scene.
