Star Sports and ESPN, produced by the News Corp and Disney's Singapore-based joint venture, have been removed from the list of foreign broadcasters that may be distributed to hotels and high-end housing compounds in China. They do not feature in the 31 channels approved for broadcast in 2007 by the State Administration of Radio, Film and TV (SARFT), the Financial Times reported. The Hollywood Reporter claimed that the move followed ESPN Star Sports' (ESS) failure to attend a licensing meeting with Chinese regulators last year about the extension of landing rights. ESS said Thursday that it was still working to complete the renewal process. It is thought that the two channels are blocked in some regions but still available in others.
