Trade between the European Union and China totaled US$65.7 billion over the period of January through May 2004, a rise of 35% from the same period last year. The new statistics make the EU China's largest overall trade partner after Japan and the US. Japan was China's largest import partner over the period and shipped US$64 billion worth of goods to the mainland. The US was China's largest export market over the period, receiving US$62 billion of exports from China.
