The European Union's top trade negotiator, Peter Mandelson, dismissed the possibility of a trade war with China over surging Chinese textile imports after meeting with Chinese Trade Minister Bo Xilai, state media reported. Mandelson said while China had made efforts to check its exports, "they have not had the impact that I would have liked." Mandelson rejected applying emergency measures proposed by European textile producers. The EU executive commission last week launched an investigation into spikes in Chinese textile imports after the lifting of quotas January 1.
