The EU is seeking to finalize investment deals with China by next year while brokering an approach to curb further internal divisions within the bloc, said the Financial Times.
The summit next month will spell out sectors that will be open to foreign companies and be used to push progress on bilateral investments with China. The EU has also asked for greater transparency from Beijing on its infrastructure investments overseas.
There is no consensus amongst EU members on how to handle China investment issues, with some countries like Germany adopting tougher legislation to screen foreign investment.
After 17 rounds of negotiations in the past five years, the EU is still striving to hit a 2020 deadline for EU-China investment agreements.
