[photopress:Shanghaitradecenter.jpg, full, alignright]The Shanghai New International Expo Center will add five new halls to meet increasing demand for exhibition space.
This is its biggest extension project since the center opened in 2001. The center now hosts nine exhibition halls. It is expected the next two halls will be completed by March 2008 with preparation for the other three halls well in hand. The center is expected to have 17 exhibition halls by the time the World Expo opens in the city in 2010.
According to Dr Geduhn, general manager of the Shanghai New International Expo Center, the center is fully booked up for exposition events next year.
Pan Yu, a publicity official with the center, said the sharp rise in demand for exposition space has forced the center to plan expansion well in advance. ‘We were originally scheduled to build a hall every year, but the present extension speed is faster than anticipated.’
