China’s exports rose by 18.4 per cent yearon- year in May to reach US$24.64bn, while imports climbed by 19.3 per cent to US$22.44bn, according to Chinese customs figures. The trade surplus of US$2.2bn was 10 per cent higher than in the same month last year.
In the first five months of 2002, exports grew by 13.2 per cent from a year earlier to US$115.99bn, while imports rose 10.9 per cent to US$105.56bn. The trade surplus of US$10.4bn was up 42 per cent.
