Exports to US race along

China's exports to the US in the first half of this year were US$29.87bn, 19.3 per cent more than in the first half of 2001, according to Moftec. Total trade with the US in the period was US$41.97bn, a year-on-year rise of 11.7 per cent. The figures do not include goods shipped through Hong Kong, which are included in US statistics.

China's main exports to the US were electric and electronic products, furniture, lamps, toys and textile products, while its main imports included optical instruments, aircraft and electrical, chemical and farm products. Actual investment by US firms in China rose by 19.7 per cent year-on-year in the first half of 2002 to US$2.45bn. Contracted investment rose by 17.4 per cent to US$4.35bn.
