In the first
action of its kind, three major US film studios are suing three Chinese compa-nies,
alleging copyright violations through the sale of pirated videodiscs, Shanghai Daily said.
Twentieth Century Fox, Walt Disney and Universal Studios are demand-ing a public
apology. compensation and a halt to the alleged violations.
The lawyer
representing all three plantiffs said that the companies had sent staff to the outlets of the
three defendants and bought pirated VCDs and DVDs of their films.
In addition, the
commission will seek to diversify shareholders by encouraging the firms to sell and
transfer shares both domes-tically and overseas. The establishment of local state-owned
asset management compa-nies would also promote diversification of shareholdings by
allowing state firms to take stakes in each other's operations.
