Flights surge over Lunar New Year

A surge in Lunar New Year-related mainland travel will increase in- and outbound flights at Hong Kong International Airport to record levels, pushing up landings and take-offs to 58 an hour at peak times, SAR civil aviation officials said. Some 762 aircraft are scheduled to arrive and depart February 9, the first day of the Lunar New Year. As of Thursday, 15 airlines had submitted slot requests to operate 338 additional scheduled flights and charters February 4-20. At last report, different carriers had submitted requests to operate additional flights to 14 mainland destinations.
