Foreign film quota to widen

China's media regulator said it would raise the quota of imported films and broaden the range of countries from where overseas films are sourced. In recent years the quota has seen about 50 foreign films a year shown on Chinese cinema screens about half of which were from the United States. An official from the State Administration of Radio, Film and Television said that by increasing the quota more non-American films would be allowed in. With the arrival of new multiplex cinemas, backed by growing domestic and overseas investment, he said there were now more opportunities to increase the number of foreign-made films shown in China.
