Foreign investment in film

Private and foreign firms will be allowed to invest in China's domestic film industry beginning December 1 and the censor's controls on films and film scripts will be relaxed, according to the State Administration of Radio, Film and Television (Sarft).

Majority foreign investment will also be allowed in JVs in the film technology and cinema sectors.

Previously, foreign enterprises were only allowed to build cinemas as minority shareholders in JVs or co-operative businesses. They did not have the right to run and manage cinemas.
