Work has begun on the Zhiganglaka hydropower station on the upper reaches of the Yellow River, reported China Daily. With funding from AES Corporation and a Hong Kong company, it is the first solely foreigninvested power project in Qinghai province. One of 13 power stations planned for the upper reaches of the Yellow River, Zhiganglaka has a designed installed capacity of 190MW. It is scheduled for completion by October 2005.
Second Shenzhen highway planned A second highway between Shenzhen and Guangzhou in Guangdong is being considered by the province's planning development commission, reported South China Morning Post. The chairman of H-share-listed Shenzhen Expressway, Chen Chao, said the extra road was needed because the existing Guangzhou-Shenzhen-Zhuhai highway was likely to reach capacity by 2005, when a fourth border crossing will open between Hong Kong and Zhuhai.
