Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi said leaders at this year's G8 summit in the US are considering admitting China to the group as a permanent member. "It doesn't make much sense for us to talk about the economy of the future without two countries that are protagonists on the world stage," he said. They are also considering India's admission but the group is still trying to digest Russia's recent entry. Its economy is smaller than other countries who think they deserve to be admitted too. That's not a problem for China. Its economy is larger than Canada's and Italy's, both long-time G8 members.
