Domestic automaker Geely’s attempt to buy Ford’s Volvo unit could end over a failure to agree on intellectual property issues, Reuters reported, citing a source close to the negotiations. Ford is reportedly concerned about sharing proprietary technology with Geely; a Volvo spokesman declined to comment on the sales process, and Ford stated that the talks would "take some time to unfold." Geely’s bid of around US$2 billion is considered high for the Swedish auto brand. In addition to the Volvo brand name and technology, Geely is said to be interested in Volvo’s dealership network.
