Gold trading could open to individuals

People's Bank of China Governor Zhou Xiaochuan said China will allow individuals to speculate on the price of gold through the Shanghai Gold Exchange. He said the government wants to see gold become more than a hedging instrument and so would encourage more trade in gold as an investment. The World Gold Council said deregulating China's gold market could treble demand for the precious metal, to 600 tons.
