Disgraced Gome Electrical Appliance (0493.HK) founder Huang Guangyu has had his 14-year prison sentence upheld by a Beijing court, the Wall Street Journal reported. Huang had lodged an appeal against the considerable length of the sentence he received for insider trading and bribery. His wife, Du Juan, convicted on similar charges, was released on parole. Depite facing more than ten years of incarceration, Huang has been attempting to remove Gome’s current chairman Chen Xiao, and, according to a company filing with the Hong Kong exchange, has threatened to cut ties between a group of his personally owned stores and Gome, the stores’ manager. As the company’s biggest shareholder, Huang has also demanded a rejection of a 20% company share issue.
