Google (GOOG.NASDAQ) announced yesterday that it will stop supporting two online services run by Chinese internet site operator Tianya, the Wall Street Journal reported. The services in question are a question-and-answer service and a social networking service, and are highly popular in China. Tianya threatened to take control of both services after Google said it would stop censoring search results, but now Google has stated it intends to "wind down" its cooperation with Tianya over time. Instead, it plans to launch its own similar Chinese-language services on its Hong Kong site, which Chinese users can reach via google.cn. The announcement came on the same day that the Ministry of Industry and Information technology confirmed that it had formally renewed Google’s license to provide online services in China.
