Government says it can control inflation

China’s government said on Monday it had the capacity to control the country’s rising inflation, AP reported. Addressing mounting concerns that China’s inflation rate, which reached 4.4% year-on-year in October, would further increase, the National Development and Reform Commission issued a statement saying "[t]his country has the capacity to keep the price level basically stable." Efforts to reassure consumers and manage inflation expectations are the latest in a series of anti-inflationary measures in recent weeks, including a hike in bank reserve requirements and suggestions that the government may impose price controls on vegetables. Worries about inflation have sent the stock market down in recent weeks, and have led to reports of hoarding by consumers.
