The governor of Sichuan province, Wei Hong, has been stripped of his position and of his role as the province’s party vice-secretary for corruption and being “disloyal and dishonest to the Party,” Agence France-Presse reported, citing state media. State news agency Xinhua said Wei had “attempted to subvert the investigation and refused to confess, seriously violating [the party’s] political and organizational code of conduct,” adding that he had also “interfered with judicial activities”. The announcement comes amid an ongoing campaign against corruption under the current administration that has deposed several senior officials.
