China has enough grain to feed its 1.3bn people for now, but the future looks questionable, according to China's agricultural advisors, citing a rising population, greater consumption spurred by improving living standards, declining agricultural acreage and poor infrastructure. Beijing has abolished farm taxes, raised subsidies and promised to spend more on irrigation and other infrastructure projects.
