China's economic growth will hit a sustained level of 7% a year by 2020, Vice-Premier Zeng Peiyan has predicted. Speaking at the China Business Summit 2004, Zeng forecast China's total volume of gross domestic product (GDP) would reach US$4 trillion by 2020, while per capita GDP, which surpassed US$1,000 last year, will increase to US$3,000. As a result, he said, China would gradually come to stand alongside the United States as a dominant force in the global economy.
