China's first cross-straits railway, from Guangdong province to Hainan Island, will be open to traffic on December 28, reported Xinhua. In Guangdong, the line runs 139km from Zhanjiang to Haian, while the Hainan section stretches 182km from Haikou to Chahe. In between, a ferry service will operate across the 24km Qiongzhou Strait. The entire project has cost more than Yn4bn.
