Another fatal accident hit China's mines with 33 miners killed and 28 trapped underground by an underground blaze at a network of iron ore mines in Hebei province. More than 100 miners were underground when the blaze broke out at the privately run mine near the city of Shahe, 420 km from Beijing. At least 45 miners managed to escape the fire, but rescue efforts to reach those who remained trapped were hampered by thick smoke.
