China's Huawei Technologies is in talks which may result in it buying troubled UK telecommunications equipment maker Marconi, valued at around 560m British pounds, the Times newspaper reported, citing unnamed sources familiar with the negotiations. Marconi and Shenzhen-based Huawei, which in May agreed to market each other's products in their respective regions, yesterday refused to comment on the speculation.
