Huawei unveils in-house AI model

Huawei has launched an AI training model built specifically for its flagship telecom business in its latest push to advance its technology amid a continued Washington crackdown, reports Nikkei Asia. The new AI model—Telecom Foundation Model—is designed for telecom carriers to help improve efficiency as well as detect problems in networks, Philip Song, Huawei’s chief marketing officer for the telecom group, told reporters on Tuesday on the sidelines of the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona.

The primary aim of the AI model is to help telecom operators “utilize their network resources and to help their internal efficiency, particularly in operation and maintenance,” Song said.

Song added that Huawei pre-trained the model using data from open sources, as well as from in-house data accumulated over more than 30 years. Its carrier clients can further train the model using their own data to further hone the model for specific purposes.
