A growing number of China’s internet users are booking their travel online, according to a survey on outbound tourism and leisure tourism consumption compared with bookings made through the internet.
Revenue from online air tickets, hotel reservations and package tourism products is expected to grow by 27% to RMB4.75 billion (US$711 million) this year.
Market research firm IResearch said that while the proportion of customers using online travel services is still relatively low, China’s massive base of internet users means the online travel market is huge, Gerson Letterman Group reported.
IResearch believes that by 2013, online travel bookings will climb to RMB90 billion (US$13.48 billion.)
