Infosys admits to slow growth in China

Infosys Technologies, India's second-largest computer services company, said on Wednesday that its China operations were growing slower than expected, the Financial Times reported. Infosys CEO S. Gopalakrishnan said that clients still preferred to use English-speaking outsourcing bases in India and there was little appetite for increasing exposure in China. Infosys has 700 employees in China, based in Shanghai and Hangzhou, while rival Tata Consultancy Services boasts more than 1,000 workers, most employed in a joint venture with Microsoft and three state-owned firms. While China does not appear to be fulfilling its outsourcing potential right now, Gopalakrishnan said the country could not be ignored in the long term as it is producing 650,000 engineers per year to India's 450,000 and America's 100,000.
