A supervisory group of experts headed by Qian Zhengying, former minister of water resources, has found cracks in the body of the Three Gorges Dam, China Daily said.
An inspection of the project found that concrete placement had been badly carried out, leading to a variety of defects including the cracks. They were said to be up to 1.25mm wide and up to 2.5 metres deep. There were also cracks in the shiplocks and ship lifts. The group has recommended that the cracks be repaired ‘fastidiously’.
