[photopress:Intercon.jpg,full,alignright]InterContinental Hotels, possibly the world’s largest hotelier depending on how you define that term, expects as much as half of a planned global expansion to 2008 to be in China. It has raided it projections there in keeping with the accelerated tourism in the world’s fourth-largest economy.
InterContinental’s North Asian chief operating officer, Edmond Ip, said the hotelier, which has forecast adding between 50,000 and 60,000 rooms worldwide up till 2008, now foresees as much as half of that in the China region as the country gears up for the Olympic Games that same year.
Executives said in June that China would contribute to one-third of its international rooms expansion.
