The iPhone is hot in China and in Canada where Apple’s share of the mobile market is around 12.4%. In France its mobile market share reaches 11.6%. In the United Kingdom Apple commands 10% of the market. In contrast, Apple’s mobile market share in the US is just 6.5%.
In China, despite being on China Unicom 0 the nation’s second-largest carrier with only 20% of the subscribers of leader China Mobile – there are now more than a million contract users of Apple’s iPhone.
Apple cannot easily expand to China Mobile, which uses the homegrown TD-SCDMA technology. This means Apple would need to create a separate model. And on past experience from both sides this seems somewhat unlikely. But sometimes such attitudes change.
Motley Fool reports some analysts are predicting China has a market for 100 million high-end smartphones, indicating the country’s vast potential.
