A Chinese journalist, imprisoned for six years for supplying state secrets and inciting subversion after reporting on corruption in northeastern China has been released a year early, reported Reuters. Jiang Weiping returned home to Dalian to stay with his family and is expected to apply for a passport to join his wife and daughter in Canada. Beijing is said to be showing goodwill before a possible US visit by President Hu Jintao.
