Japan must face history: Wen

In the strongest sign yet that China may block Japan's bid for a permanent UN Security Council seat, Premier Wen Jiabao said Japan must face history and acknowledge the "tremendous suffering" it inflicted on the world during World War II before it can assume a global role. The anti-Japanese weekend protests in three major Chinese cities over Japan's approval of a history textbook that critics say minimizes Japanese military abuses should prompt "deep and profound reflections" by the Japanese, Wen told reporters in New Dehli, where he is concluding his South Asian tour.
