An advisory body to Japan's minister for the economy, trade and industry has urged that China fulfils its pledges to the World Trade Organisation on auto import quotas and reduced photo film tariffs. The Industrial Structure Council's annual report for 2003 said China had committed to importing US$7.9bn-worth of automobiles and parts between April and December last year, but the actual total came to just US$3.1bn.
The report also warned that if China continued to allow 'rampant piracy' of Japanese video-game software and other counterfeit products, Tokyo would bring a case to the WTO dispute panel.
