KFC accused of using tainted supplies

US operator of fast-food chains Yum Brands (YUM.NYSE, TGR.FRA) is facing increasing scrutiny in China amid allegations from state-owned national television broadcaster of improper use of antibiotics in chickens supplied by local firms, The Wall Street Journal reported. China Central Television (CCTV) made the allegations, which have not been independently verified, on its nationwide midday news broadcast on Wednesday. In a response, KFC set out the procedures it follows to ensure its supplies are safe, said it was cooperating with regulatory bodies in Shanghai and added that it would deal with violators seriously. “KFC’s control and management over food safety cannot be trusted completely by customers,” CCTV said in a broadcast made after KFC’s statement. The Shanghai Food and Drug Administration is testing samples of raw chicken meat from a Yum Shanghai facility in light of the CCTV allegations.
