The leader of Taiwan's opposition KMT party, Lien Chan, is scheduled to arrive in the Mainland April 26 for the first top-level meeting between Nationalist and Communist party leaders since the end of the civil war in 1949, state media reported, citing unnamed officials. Taiwan's ruling party has condemned the trip, which Lien has justified on the grounds that he is traveling to the Mainland as a private citizen. Lien's trip follows that of his deputy Chiang Pin-kung last month, which may result in treason charges against Chiang, because he signed 10 "agreements" on trade issues with Beijing.
