The damming of the Zhangjiu River, a tributary of the Yangtze, for the Yunlong reservoir was completed in October 2001, China Daily said. The whole project is expected to cost Yn3.9bn and will double the supply of drinking water to Kunming, capital of Yunnan province, when it is completed in 2005.
Construction of a tunnel to bring water from the Yunlong reservoir to Kunming was started in November 2001, Xinhua reported.
