The eight officials included Xu Yunfeng, the former director of the recruitment office of Dangshan County Educational Bureau and his deputy, who were accused of abusing authority and taking bribes. Xu’s elder brother, wife and brother-in-law are also being investigated.
Sources within the procurate said that the others were three police officers in Dangshan county.
Xu Yunfeng allegedly confessed to police that he took bribes worth RMB24,000 ($3,157 ) from teachers and gave 747 unqualified people permission certificates to attend the national exam on June 7 and 8.
Xu Ungeng disappeared when investigators decided to transfer him to judicial authorities for prosecution.
Police in Dangshan have arrested four people who were found to have offered 41 college students in Hefei, capital of Anhui, RMB1,000 each to take the exam. But most of the college students failed to attend the exam when they head the police had been alerted to the scam.
Xu Yunfeng was sacked and stripped of Party membership but, as far as is known, has not yet been arrested.
The young student in our illustration has nothing to do with this sordid matter whatsoever. It is just that she is a college student and she is taking an exam and she decorates the story.
