Lenovo is expanding with a new US$100 million production base and research and development center.
The world’s number four PC maker (but very close to becoming third), which also makes mobile phones, will build the facility in Chengdu, the capital of China’s Sichuan province.
Yang Yuanqing, Lenovo’s chief executive officer, said, "Our business has seen rapid growth during the past few quarters and that put great pressure on our production capacity."
Most of Lenovo’s operations are located in China. The company is the No. 1 PC maker in the Chinese market and also has it own smartphone called the Le Phone.
Over the past year Lenovo has been expanding its sales and marketing efforts across China, including many rural areas.
Local TechWire reports the new Lenovo facility will open in late 2011 and will be able to produce more than 10 million PCs and employ some 1,000 workers.
