Lenovo has recorded substantial PC growth for its second fiscal quarter. It posted profit of US$77 million, a 45% increase from the same period in 2009, on consolidated sales of US$5.8 billion, up 41% from a year ago.
PC sales increased 33% on a worldwide basis.
Notebook sales generated 60% of Lenovo’s overall sales revenue. In volume terms, sales of its notebooks increased 38%, against an average industry growth of 13%. In October, Lenovo sold its 60 millionth ThinkPad notebook.
Desktop computers made up 33% of sales, with shipments increasing by 26%.
PC Magazine reports that although Lenovo’s new smartphone business recorded US$217 million in revenue, there has been no date set for selling the Android-based LePad tablet outside the US. This is possibly because a further revision is expected of the Android platform.
